there was a problem connecting to the server "localhost"

I've had problems connecting to one of our Brother printers, which has been getting worse over the past year, or so. After the Ventura upgrade we cannot connect at all, no scanning or printing, despite the printer can be seen and recognized in Apple's Systems Settings, but when we try to print or scan to the printer we get a pop-up stating "there was a problem connecting to the server "localhost"". Sometimes, after 10-15 repeat attempts, the Brother software will launch, but we then receive the same error message when trying to print from the Brother software. I've assumed it's a software issue with Brother Print & Scan software.

Does anyone have any info about the issue or how to resolve this?

Find the model number of the printer. Navigate to https://www.brother-usa.com/brother-support/driver-downloads and see if there is an updated version of the drivers for Ventura macOS 13.01. Download the drivers and then go to System Settings and delete the printer. Check to see if there is a Brother folder in /Applications that includes an uninstall app. Also check /Applications/Utilities. Uninstall the software if you can. Then install the drivers and add the printer. Usually that fixes the problem.

If the printer support page doesn't have drivers specifically listed for Ventura macOS 13.01 try macOS 12 it might still work. Might just need to be re-installed. If nothing works, we will see what we can do to help you.
