Problem with PS5 Controller on 3rd gen 64GB Apple TV

My PS5 controller acts erratically on 3rd Gen Apple TV 4K 64GB. Have tried 2 PS5 Controllers and also have the latest Apple Tv and PS5 updates.

I also have a 3rd Gen Apple TV 4K 128GB and the controllers work fine. Also work fine on 2nd Gen 4K Apple Tv

please release a patch to correct this issue.

The controllers are unusable. Sometimes they work for a small period then start loosing the plot.

We appreciate you clarifying this for us, Boostdr,

We're all users here so we would suggest that you reach out to Apple directly if you'd like to report this behavior directly to Apple. You can reach them here: Apple Support

You can also reference this article which outlines how you can troubleshoot your Apple TV Remote, such as restarting your remote, if it's not working as you'd expect: If your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote isn't working - Apple Support

"Restart your remote

If your remote still isn't working as expected, try restarting your remote.

  1. Press and hold the TV/Control Center button  and the Volume Down button  at the same time. Hold the buttons down for about 5 seconds, or until the status light on your Apple TV turns off and on again.
  2. Release the buttons. Then wait 5 to 10 seconds for a Connection Lost notification to appear on your TV screen.
  3. Wait while your remote restarts. When the Connected notification appears, you can use your remote.

Pair your remote

If your remote still isn't working as expected, try pairing your remote to your Apple TV again.

  1. Point your remote at your Apple TV. Make sure that the remote is about three inches from the Apple TV.
  2. Press and hold Back  (or Menu) and Volume Up  for five seconds.
  3. If asked, place your remote on top of Apple TV to complete pairing.

If you can't pair your remote, make sure that your Apple TV is updated to the latest version of tvOS. You can use the Apple TV Remote on your iPhone or iPad to navigate your Apple TV to check which version of tvOS you have.

If you still need help, contact Apple Support."

Take care!

SOLVED

Have worked out that the PS5 Controller issues are a Bluetooth interface problem. For some reason when the Apple TV is connected directly to the TV via HDMI. I need to have the controllers less than 15cm from the APPLE TV box to work. When I connected the Apple TV to my TV via the sound bar the controller works well up to 1 meter away. Any further and it starts dropping out. The previous Gen 4K Apple TV works fine in any configuration (with the same HDMI cables) so it seems the new Apple TV is sensitive to HDMI cable induced Bluetooth interference.

Replaced the Apple TV to TV HDMI cable and the issue resolved.

Hello Boostdr,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. What are the specific issues you're experiencing with your PS5 controller when connecting with your Apple TV 4K?

To get started, please ty the steps in the following links:

Connect a PlayStation wireless game controller to your Apple device - Apple Support

If the controller doesn't connect or work as expected

Support for specific buttons and features, such as a controller's audio jack or lights, varies by controller and the app you're using with it.
• Install the latest software updates—both for your Apple device and the controller. If a software (firmware) update is available for the controller, get it from the maker of the controller.
• In Bluetooth settings, select the contoller or the info button  (if present) next to its name, then select Forget This Device. Connect the controller again.
• Reduce the number of Bluetooth devices connected to your Apple device. This can also help with connection issues related to wireless interference. Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD support up to four Bluetooth game controllers at the same time, or one controller when Apple TV is also using a Bluetooth audio accessory. The limit for other Apple devices varies based on your specific setup and wireless environment.
• To charge your controller, use the charging solution included with your controller or recommended by the controller manufacturer.
If you need help, please contact Apple Support.

Please actually read my post properly. This is not a controller problem. There is a problem with the Apple TV. The Apple TV remote remote is also acting strange to the touch pad inputs at times. There is an issue with the Apple TV coding. I suggest this issue is raised to the next level otherwise Apple will risk reputational damage with this new released product.

Confirmed same issue with brand new Xbox elite wireless controller series 2.

Specifically bought brand new controller and AppleTV to play arcade (~$500AU), only for the bluetooth to drop out continiously and have serious slow input lag, or not even register input.

Moving closer to box as detailed above fixes imput to near perfect, but anything past 15cm drops out.

CLEARLY an issue with the bluetooth on the AppleTV 4K 2022...

This needs a patch ASAP... not the 'apple' experience I expected for my $500 bucks...
