Help, hotmail folders missing on new 9th gen ipad

Hi, I’ve just bought an iPad 9th generation. I copied everything over from my 9 year old iPad Air using Bluetooth. All was well but for hotmail folders other than inbox and sent are empty. I’ve got the other folders but they are all empty. I’ve tried deleting the hotmail account and adding it again as a new account….no change. I’m not the greatest or evenly average tech user so is there an obvious thing (to you) that I should have done ?.

Would the missing folders be a nested sub-folders of the inbox, archive or other mailbox folder?

You should note that due to a bug in the iOS/iPadOS Mail App (present in iOS/iPadOS15.x - and now iOS/iPadOS16), nested mailbox folders (i.e., folders within folders) are not visible in the native Mail App.

Other Mail Apps may show the full/nested mailbox folder structure - as will your mail provider’s webmail pages.

If this is the issue, while there are no available workarounds for the native iOS/iPadOS Mail App, you need to make a bug report to Apple via the Product Feedback portal. For iPad and iPadOS:

Feedback - iPad - Apple

Every bug report counts - as until Apple see sufficient reports of a problem, they are unlikely to allocate resources to fix the problem.

Hello davebagain,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to help get your email account loading as expected on your iPad.

We would suggest using these steps to ensure the account is added correctly:

"Remove your email account and set it up again

  1. On your computer, sign in to your email provider’s website. Make sure that all of your email is there or make sure that your email is saved somewhere other than your device.
  2. On your device, go to Settings > Mail, then tap Accounts.
  3. Tap the email account that you want to remove.
  4. Tap Delete Account.
  5. Add your account again.

If these steps don't work, contact your email service provider for more information."

We understand you already added the account again. You might also check your webmail to see if the folders show correctly there.

We hope this helps to isolate and resolve the email folder issue.

Cheers!

Thanks for your prompt reply, alas it didn’t work. I deleted the account on the iPad, checked the account and it’s sub folders were present on my laptop, they were all there. So I reloaded the account on the iPad and there they weren’t . A second account I use just to keep bowls games info is also totally blank. I’ll talk to the outlook team but thanks for your input……dave
