AirPods Pro (gen 2) transparency mode cutting out.

I’ve had my AirPods Pro gen 2 for about 2 weeks now, I had this issue and took them into the Apple Store and they replaced them which fixed the issue, but about a week later it had happened again-

Whenever I turn on transparency mode it sounds “wavy” or like the transparency mode is cutting in and out. It sounds similar to the adaptive transparency turning down loud sound, but like it is happening very fast, and is muting sounds as quiet as me humming or someone sighing.

My AirPods have been kept very clean and haven't been dropped. They just suddenly stopped working towards the end of the day. They are at 70% battery as this happens, adaptive transparency is off, and I have tried factory resetting them, as well as disconnecting and reconnecting normally.

any fixes would be greatly appreciated

Hi Sampson_APL,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that Transparency Mode is working properly on your replacement AirPods. To address this issue, reset your AirPods and try them with a different device.

1. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and close the lid.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Open the lid of your charging case.
4. With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Bluetooth, or Settings > [your AirPods], and tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods. If you don't see your AirPods in Settings > Bluetooth or in Settings > [your AirPods], just go to the next step.
5. Tap Forget This Device, and tap again to confirm.
6. With the lid open, press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*

7. Reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Follow the steps on your device's screen.

AirPods can be associated with one Apple ID. If you want to use AirPods (3rd generation) or AirPods Pro (1st or 2nd generation) that someone else has used, they first need to remove the AirPods from their Apple ID.

These steps can be found in How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro.

If these steps have been tried, contact Apple Support to investigate this behavior further.

Yes I have this exact same issue. Had it on my first pair of Airpods Pro 2, got them exchanged and a month later it started happening again. Particularly noticeable around droning sounds such as a fan or AC unit. It sounds like its cutting in and out about 5-6 times per second and headache-inducing! Only happens in transparency mode. Tried resetting and all that, does not help at all unfortunately.

for anyone finding this, I took them into the Apple Store, they tested them and didn’t find anything wrong but replaced them anyways, this fixed the issue but it’s like 2-3 months later or so and the same issue started happening again in the left AirPod. I may go in to get it checked out. Resetting them doesn’t work, I can’t tell if it’s a software or hardware issue, but either way I hope that the issue can be fixed.
