my voice cuts out on phone calls intermittently

recently while I'm talking on a phone call on my SE 2nd gen, my voice cuts out to the call recipient. Sometimes this happens when the call picks up, sometimes in the middle of the call. Sometimes it's completely normal in long calls.

I use hearing aids that connect directly to the phone for my audio but the phone microphone for my voice.

Hello stucchiguy,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to help resolve the issue so your voice doesn't cut out during the call.

We see you viewed the Apple Support page for If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working - Apple Support

From the link, we want to make sure your tried these steps:

"If you want to try more steps on your own

If you prefer, here are some more steps you can try on your own. You might still need to contact Apple Support after following these steps.

If people can't hear you on phone or FaceTime calls

  1. Open the Voice Memos app.
  2. Tap the Record button , speak at the bottom of your phone, then stop the recording.
  3. When you play back the memo, you should hear your voice clearly."

If the voice memo doesn't have an issue, it might be related to your carrier or cellular connection.

We hope this helps to isolate and resolve the microphone issue by testing with another feature like Voice Memos.

Cheers!
