Macbook and Smartboard

I am not sure if anyone uses a MacBook with a Smartboard. I have an issue with the SB screen when connecting the computer to it.

I have a MacBook Air (M1, 2020) running Ventura (22A380). The SB is a newer MX065-v3 model. The computer is connected to the board using a hub and HDMI cable. When the computer is connected to the board the SB screen is greenish and washed out. The board is not clear.

I have tried different computers, cables, hubs and I narrowed it down to something with Ventura. I have tried another MacBook running Monterey and the SB screen is fine and clear.

I have reached out to Smarttech support (maker of Smartboard) and they told me to update the drivers on the MacBook. Obviously, I can't manually update the drivers like you can on a PC.

Perhaps I am missing something on the computer in Displays or another setting. If I connect the computer using the same hub and VGA then the screen is fine and clear. Otherwise the computer works fine.

Hi pfisher112,

We appreciate you reaching out to us. We understand that you are experiencing issues with the display quality of your Smart Board when connected to your MacBook Air.

To begin, since SMART Support suggested updating your drivers, you can do so for the Mac specifically using the steps found here: SMART Product Drivers 12 and SMART Ink 5

To further isolate the issue, let’s check if the issue persists when signed in on a different user account.

The article below can help if you do not have any other user account to test with.

Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

If you are experiencing the issue when signed in on a different user account, please check if the issue persists while on safe mode.

Safe mode does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility.

Performing this step may help resolve the issue, or further isolate the issue.

Below is an article to help guide you through the process.

How to use safe mode on your Mac

Take care!

Thanks for the reply. I have already performed a lot of basic troubleshooting including trying Safe boot and that didn't resolve it. I tried another MacBook Air (M1) and I got the same result as the teacher computer (in question) so I have narrowed it down to the M1 computer running Ventura.

Both computers are running the latest SMART software.

In terms of another user account I have a local admin account on the teachers computer and it doesn't change anything.

Hello pfisher112,

Based on all of the steps that you've already completed, you'll want to reach back out to the manufacturer directly to look in to this a bit further.

As you indicated that this issue continues with various hardware configurations, different hubs, cables, etc... and it appears to happen in all user accounts this is likely something the manufacturer will need to look in to further to determine what could be causing this.

Cheers!
