How to stop iOS downsampling images when sharing via email?

Whenever I share a screenshot via email or other means, the photo is always downsampled to a very low resolution automatically. I can't figure out how to disable this - I want to share screenshots as they are, or at least be asked what size/resolution they should be downsampled to before sending. Can anyone suggest what settings to change?

I have an iPad (running iPad iOS 15.6.1) with iCloud Photos disabled; this issue does not seem to relate to iCloud.

Thanks!

iPad, iOS 10

If you using the free, Apple iOS/iPadOS Mail app,

Once an image is placed in the body of an email, at the top of the email info area, if you tap on image size, to the right, you will bring up other email image resolutions and their file sizes, one email resolution/size option will be Actual Size.

Thank you - your suggestion worked!

A further clarification for anyone else reading this: it's not easy to make the Image Size option appear at the top of the mail message. After some experimentation, this worked for me:

  1. Tap on the image and select Markup.
  2. Make some scribbles on the image, then undo them if you want - if you skip this step, it won't work!
  3. Tap Done.
  4. The Image Size option now appears as a line near the To/Cc/Bcc/From fields.
