Screen time not working!!!

I can’t help but feel that Apple is intentionally making screentime buggy because they don’t want parents controlling kids’ access. My screentime doesn’t work. Peculiarly all other Apple Apps work seemlessly.

While you may be experiencing problems with Screen Time, Apple is not intentionally creating problems for you to prevent you from using it. There are many parents using it quite successfully to control their children's devices.

Start here, Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support and then with this document as well. Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Screentime for my daughter’s iPhone stopped working correctly the day we all upgraded our devices to 16.2. I contacted Apple and had an audio support call with them. They had no solution - other than advising me to backup our iPhones, restore them, and re-activate screentime. Well, we did that and we’re still having issues. My daughter admitted to me that she saw a video online Ti_T_k that showed her how to “glitch” her iPhone to turn off screentime. Not sure that’s what is happening, but I’ve tried logging everytime screentime had to be re-activated or has failed. I can’t find a pattern. The only for sure thing that I know is it started giving me problems when we upgraded our iPhones to the latest software release.

There are many parents for whom it doesn’t work. It’s buggy and slow. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes you think it’s on and it’s not on. Not sure the age of your kids, but if they are teens, they will not tell you when it’s bugging and not working. It’s obvious this bug is there on purpose and not an accident.

Hi

I am facing same issue after updating to 16.2. Screen-time was buggy from beginning.

I wasted lot of days, restoring 50 to 100 device, resetting devices, calling apple support.

Ultimately, i came to conclusion that it is not our devices that is causing these issues. It could be apple server, icloud, home kit etc causing these issues. Apple support is total waste of time, as tech support many times don’t even know, how Apple product work. They are just waste time to start a ticket, tickets are never followed and no one is working on it. Starting a ticket means, good bye. I have 3 or 4 tickets with some started a year ago on issues like wallet notifications coming late, apple participant card cannot be activated, legacy contact stuck in appleid.apple.com apple account which cannot be removed. After 16.2, update, the screentime issue, homekit issue, cameras not recording to icloud and the list goes on.

I do think at this point that, even apple engineers dont know how to fix these issues. It is just a technical Chaos.

I recommend people not wasting time on this and probably move on to android or other devices. If kids do not leave screen, just brick the device and give them old flip flop phone for calls and messages. Sometimes old is gold.

Apple has become a rip off and there competitors could be worse. It clearly remind that Steve Jobs and his legacy is dead.
