Mute group texts.

I need to mute group text discussions but the only option seems to be to select each person separately. I want individuals to reach me but not the group text which includes some of the people.

How do I add a filter to mute the group only, that still allows the individual members of the group to reach me?

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities SpiffyCanuck,

We can certainly understand your concern and see you came to us from the article Use Focus on your iPhone or iPad.

We recommend checking out these steps for more information on how to mute a group text.

" How to mute a group text message

  1. Tap the group text message.
  2. Tap the group icons at the top of the thread. If you're on iOS 14 or earlier, tap the group icons at the top, then tap the Info button .
  3. Scroll down, then turn on Hide Alerts.

Or, from your list of messages conversations, you can swipe left over the group text message and tap the Alerts button . With iOS 15, When Hide Alerts is on, the Hide Alerts icon  appears next to the conversation on the right side. With iOS 14 or earlier, a crescent moon icon  will appear next to the conversation.

Hide Alerts stops notifications for a specific group text message, but not for all the messages on your device. You'll still receive all other messages and notifications. Learn more about managing your notifications."

These steps will help ensure your device is working with ease and can fix common issues like the ones you’re experiencing.

Kindest regards!

Thanks for your reply. I reread my question and it looks like I left out some information. I thought I had included the information about scheduling this via a focus filter but it looks like I forgot that part.

I do know how to mute group conversations manually but what I need to do is to create a focus filter that will mute only the group discussion on a preset schedule (i.e. every night or only on weekends, etc.). When I try to do this via focus, I have to select all the individual participants in the group however, I still want them to be able to reach me individually, just not the group.

Is there a way to mute the group only via a scheduled focus filter, but not the individual members of the group?

Mute group texts.
