iPod Classic

I have an iPod that only displays the apple logio.

At one point I saw a message to use iTunes to finish setting it up.

I connect to iTunes, but told I need a driver for the iPod classic.

How can I get my iPod back and useable?

Try iOS device not showing in iTunes for Windows - Apple Community. Despite the title the same steps can help with older devices. The latest build should work, but sometimes it can help to install an older build.

Hello, yes it did work briefly after receiving it back. Then it stopped and only displayed the Apple logo.

I tried the reset and recall once seeing a message on the screen that I needed to connect to iTunes.

Unfortunately I was travelling and unable to connect to iTunes until my return. At which time, I found I was unable to connect... and recall some message about iPod driver.

Since then, reset has no effect,

Update: I took a couple of screenshots/pics of iTunes /Windows messages - attached

Thanks, went through all the steps, reset/reloadfed USB port drivers ...

no change. Windows detects the device but it causes the system to slow down or even not respond.

I can't read the device, and after ejecting, the iPod has the tick Ok to disconnect, but never shuts off.

It goes off when it runs down the battery (which is a new one I had installed)

Really frustrating... it's a great device with a new battery and I cant use it

Defaulting (hold centre & top) does nothing, repeat and slide 90 deg left, no effect.

I'll try to default with cable connected,

Once Windows recognises the iPod as an USB device, (ie (F:) I click on it and get a message saying insert a disk into device. It does allow me to eject F:, the iPod says OK to disconnect. then stays like that until the battery runs down.

Thanks for the link for reformatting the drive, that's what I'll try after chargiing the battery again.

Not sure what you mean or want for HDD Stats, (properties maybe?) please elaborate. (i.e. HDD for laptop or iPod)

Thanks again for all the useful tips

iTunes helper is a service that only runs if you've selected an option to launch iTunes when this device is connected for one or more devices. If you cannot get into the diagnostics screens and all you hear is clicking then either the drive isn't connected properly to the motherboard in the device, or the drive is dead. You can contact the company that did the battery exchange for you and see if they can help. Failing that you can find instructions online that show how to open up the classic (the right tools and ideally an extra hand) so that you can reseat the drive cable in case that helps.

Ah, thanks, that's useful to know.

I can't get into any screen, there is no clicking, I only get the Apple logo come up when I have charged it... and it won't turn off, just runs down the battery.

I contacted the company that changed the battery, who have conveniently decided to exit this business.

I appreciate all your help, I will try to open it to check for cables etc... will try to get the correct tools...I am in SE Asia and have found no-one here familiar... the apple store is clueless about the classic.

Thanks again
