Libraries and different user accounts

Recurring issue where events created by one user show up as damaged when opened by another user (on same Mac). Libraries live on external hard drives. I have opened the permissions on the Library but now I have to do individual events as well? There has to be an easier way.

How can I set a user to make new files that are permissioned Read & Write for all users?

filesharing and privileges problem in macOS Monterey Hello, I have seen some posts about this that are rather old, and wanted to ask why the more recent macOS versions have problems with files/folders transferred from one mac to a second using filesharing. e.g. our group has some site-license and freeware app installers as well as document folders that are stored on a common-use mac. If such items are copied to a second mac via filesharing, there's typically a warning that they can't be opened due to insufficient privileges. Of course, one can go to the "Get Info" option to manually change the privileges but that's a bit time-consuming. For inexperienced and casual users, this is too much hassle. This was not a problem in older versions of the Mac operating system. I wonder if there's a workaround, or maybe we should just drop filesharing option and use box.com or dropbox.com? Of course, if both macs have the same username, then this doesn't occur. thanks!

Username isn't on Sharing and Permissions list for files I was attempting to change the volume indicator sound (volume.aiff) in the Resources folder, but I didn't have permission because it's read only. So I went to 'Get Info' and scrolled to 'Sharing and Permission' but my username wasn't listed. I unlocked the file via the padlock, hit the + to add myself and my Mac tells me I don't have permission to do that either. Upon further exploration I don't even have full permission access to my hard drive and I can't add myself there either. Anyone know how to fix this? I did reset NVRAM and tried creating a new user account as well.

Sharing & Permissions always "fetching..."? I saw (and appreciate) Barney's answer, but it's not helpful. No one else is accessing my system. Through the years I have accumulated a number of user ids (and passwords) to improve my security and then, afterwards, to make the files usable again. My problem is a file created and presumably owned by one user id which I am no longer using. When I try to permit a different user, the Info panel always shows fetching. I can't add another user. I can't stop fetching. And I can't save changes to the file. The problem arose when I added a new 500 GB external drive (AFPS with Ventura) to my MBA (Intel, Ventura) and moved the files to it. I can edit the files on the new drive, but Save just isn't available. The file is an Excel file, but this problem seems to be Apple's.

Do you have “Ignore Ownership on this Volume” set for this drive?

What’s the drive and how is it formatted? Does the drive have read/write for everybody including all content? Post screenshots of your drive and library permissions.

Yes I had this selected, but it turns out I had not clicked the hidden button that says "apply selection to all items within" or something like that. Thanks for pointing me the way there!
