Macbook Pro (A1708) running Venture, fails to detect USB-C display (Samsung S80UA)

Hello,

After updated to Venture I received a Samsung S80UA monitor that is promoted as USB-C for power delivery and display, my A1708 doesn't detect the monitor for either display or power. I've tried both the included USB-C cable from Samsung, along with a Thunderbolt 3 USB-C from Spigen neither works.

A USB-C to HDMI adapter does allow the monitor to be detected. My question is, is my model unable to display over USB-C? Or any advice?

Is this an OS issue, monitor issue, or a settings issue?

Thank you in advance!

The Samsung S80UA User Manual doesn't mention Apple Macs at all. Only Windows PC's. It supposedly has USB-C but unknown exactly how the display is handled. There is literally one search result for the word, Thunderbolt and no other technical details.

I would purchase a USB-C to DisplayPort cable and connect that way. You can likely charge the Mac with the USB cable as it should deliver 90W but there is something with the display connectivity that's not working on Mac.
