rebuilding mailboxes deleting messages?

I have some old mailboxes from accounts that no longer exist.

Tend to keep things for historical/reference purposes.

Does Rebuilding mailboxes destroy all these messages?

Hello zit,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. If the email accounts in which your emails are no longer available and do not exist, it's not recommended to rebuild the mailbox. Rebuilding the mailbox in the Mail app will remove messages and attachments from the emails and are then re-downloaded again to the mail server. With that in mind, you'll want to avoid performing this step if you need to access the emails are no longer syncing to those email accounts.

Best regards.
