Downtime, app limits and social media

Hi,

Recently our daughter’s screentime on her Iphone 11pro has stopped working correctly, snapchat, whatsapp and tiktok fail to restrict access if the time limit is exceeded or the downtime is active. Other apps appear to restrict access fine, i’ve tried disabling/enabling screen time, reinstalling the apps etc to avail. The only way we can get the screentime to work with these apps is to set it up directly on the phone and not via family sharing, this works but has the drawback of not being able to monitor screentime and approve requests etc on our own devices.

any further ideas? Is this a known problem or common issue, we’ve had screen time for a few years now and we’ve never had any previous issues.

Thanks

Hi Lockey19,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities!

Since Screen Time doesn't seem to be set up and working correctly, follow this guidance to get started:

  1. "Go to Settings > Screen Time.
  2. Tap Turn On Screen Time, then tap it again.
  3. Select This is My [device] or This is My Child's [device]."

Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

This will allow you to schedule downtime, set app limits, and more with Screen Time.

If it's still not working as expected, ensure both devices are updated to the latest version of software. Things can misbehave when your device is running outdated software: Update your iPhone or iPad.

If it continues, let us know more about what happens when you try to access information in Screen Time.

Cheers!

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, we’ve already tried the suggested. Turned screen time on and off many times, updated to the latest software etc…. It works okay if we set screentime on the device directly, but this does not allow us to monitor screen time remotely. But it does not work if we set it from another parent device in the family settings.

Thanks
