1628: Failed to Complete Installation

Howdy all. I was having a 1607 error a couple weeks back, got that fixed thanks to b noir, but immediately got a 1628 error that I haven't been able to fix.

I've tried the suggestions on this 1628 error that this link gives you:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976

-I didn't find any process running on my computer of the install processes they had listed, are there other processes that might be causing my 1628 error?

-I've cleaned out every temp folder on both of my hard drives except for some temporary internet folders that it doesn't allow me to delete for some reason.

-When I try to install the windows installer engine on my computer I get a "the specified service already exists" message.

My anti-virus program that I have is called avg free edition, but I have been disabling anything on it that would be interfering, at least as far as I know, when I go to do installs.

An attempt at a stand alone Quicktime install will also give me the 1628 error.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

hi cdubs!

sorry about the delay ... been a bit overwhelmed by the post-christmas rush.

let's try sending that installer log to Gayle again. with the various re-organisations of Apple Discussions and whatnot, it's possible that something slipped through the cracks.

thinking that we might also try roping some other help in ... i'm not precisely sure how this works in practice, but let's try giving method 6 on this document a try:
