how many songs in my libraryno indicator

iTunes does not show the total number of songs in the music library I cannot believe they would expect a poor desperate person to count them manually what has happened to this program I used to use it in the 1990's and never had a problem

Use the menu option in iTunes View > Show Status Bar.

I am not aware of any "bootleg versions" of iTunes and the instruction I offered is to turn on the option via iTunes' top menu bar. It is not to drag any part of the screen to reveal the Status Bar.

Your Songs view might look different. I have the Column Browser turned on, you might not. Just click the menu item I've suggested. You do have to be in the Songs view in order to see all the songs in one list, so that they can then be totalled.

Make sure the Sidebar is showing (the column section on the left) and choose Songs in that left sidebar. I think that is turned on with View / Show Sidebar.) Don't worry if you don't see the Column Browser (Genres, Artists & Albums columns).

Also, as long as the complete iTunes window is on your visible screen, either as a part size or full screen, all you need to do is click on the menu choices I've mentioned previously: View / Show Status Bar. That will display the total number of songs on the bottom of the window, as shown in my screenshot.

If you're still having a problem, please post a screenshot of your iTunes window so that I can see what you're seeing.

To show the number of songs in your Library, click on iTunes' top bar menu: View / Show Status Bar or use the shortcut CTRL+/. The Status Bar appears at the bottom of the iTunes window:

It certainly saves me the task of counting all my songs!

If you click on the information displayed, the text changes to indicate the number of days that your library will play for, instead of the time. The other information is displayed in both options.
