Apple watch Sleep Screen doesn't activate when Sleep mode activated through shortcut

I have a shortcut that I run every night that turns off the lights in our house and activates Sleep mode. Since I have Sleep Screen turned on in my settings this used to turn off my Apple watch screen. Since updating to iOS 16 and watchOS 9, Sleep Screen doesn't activate when Sleep mode is turned on via Shortcut. I do see the Sleep icon on my apple watch and phone, but the apple watch display stays on all night.

If I activate Sleep mode manually on the phone or watch, Sleep Screen works as expected. It's only when I use the shortcut.

Does anyone know what would cause this behavior?

Apple Watch Series 5, watchOS 9

I have the same issue.

Manually setting sleep focus turns off the display after about 10 seconds.

Setting sleep focus with a shortcut, automation or by asking Siri to do it only sets the sleep focus but leaves the display turned on.

Its been happening since iOS 16 was released and deleting and recreating any shortcuts or automations makes no difference even now in 16.2 and WatchOS 9.2

Hello Jaym_8,

I did try deleting and re-creating the shortcut, but it had the same result. I then tried creating a shortcut where the only command is to enable sleep, but once again, my watch screen stayed on.

The shortcut is enabling Sleep on the watch, but Sleep Screen is only activated if I turn Sleep on manually.

I attached a screenshot of my shortcut and my watch screen in case someone notices something I've done wrong. The shortcut had been working great for several months up until recently.
