Duplicate versions of Quicktime Player - gone?

I just downloaded Ventura. In previous OS versions, Quicktime Player had a "Duplicate" option that let you create a duplicate version of QP so you could record multiple webcams simultaneously (1 instance of QP per webcam). With Ventura, that option no longer exists in QP. Was this capability removed? Disappointing if so..

Hey there Gr33nHighlander,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. To get started, are you not seeing the "Duplicate" option listed under File > Duplicate in the QuickTime Player menu bar? If so, are you able to press the keyboard shortcut Shift-Command-S to duplicate QuickTime Player?

Keep us updated on the results, and we'll continue from there.

Take care!

Works for me in macOS 13.0.1.

Remove all 3rd party virus apps (Avast, Bitdefender, Intego, MacAfee, Norton, ESET NOD32 etc) and 3rd party "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up" apps (CleanMyMac, MacKeeper etc). They produce only obscure errors and money loss.

Just updated to Ventura too, and I have the same gripe haha...but if you have the PhotoBooth app you can record yourself and then use QT to do screen recordings simultaneously--I make gaming videos and I used to run 2 QT apps a the same time but it looks like you can do a 'face cam' with photoBooth and then just run QT for your screen recordings. Hope this helps!

It seems easy to make a script if the name of the application has no spaces, for example type like this to open Apple Music: do shell script "open -n -a /System/Applications/Music.app". But this does not work if the application has spaces in the name and therefore this can be used for QuickTime Player: do shell script "open -n -a /System/Applications/Quicktime\\ Player.app/". This has to be typed 2 times to open the player in 2 instances… yea it seems to work. Then if you want, save it as an "app" from the script editor; I saved it as an app named QuicktimeOpenTwice.app and added the QuickTime Icon. Good luck in your scripting.

No disrespect intended, but the idea that Macs are somehow immune/resistant to malicious activity is a dangerous fallacy. Years ago, Macs and their users were largely left alone by the hacking community because Steve Jobs was more welcoming to the open source community than Bill Gates was. As the hacking community became much larger, and hacking became a profit center (and Apple tightened its perimeter) by unscrupulous people/nation states, NO operating system was given a hall pass.

Please go to the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) National Vulnerability Database (nvd.nist.gov), and search on "Apple". You'll find a list of 8,429 records (vulnerabilities) associated with Apple products.
