The wake/sleep button to which you refer is the physical button at the top-right (narrow) of the iPad when positioned in Portrait orientation.

Motion to wake in standby/nightstand mode Recently upgraded from iPhone 15 pro to iPhone 16 plus. On my 15 I had the motion to wake setting in nightstand mode which I liked. On my new 16 the option doesn’t even show in settings. Is this on purpose that it was taken away?

It is the button on the top right edge. Same button as the Touch ID sensor. Also see: iPad Air - Technical Specifications - Apple
