Harmon Kardon Onyx Studio 4 Mac Bluetooth issues..
These are possible solutions to help pair a Mac Book Air (2017) and an HK Onyx Studio 4.
The HK Onyx Studio 4 and 5 have a history of inconsistent connection with several Macbooks. Apparently HK is on Bluetooth 5.0 and some of the Mac OS's are still at 4.2. Not sure if that's correct or not, but it may be a contributing factor.
Typically problem: HK Onyx shows "connected" in a Mac Bluetooth window, gives an acknowledgement via a sound from the speaker when a "connection" is made, yet there is no sound from the speaker, typically only the laptop.
To fix this, there are two methods that have worked for me, at different times. The first is to uncheck the "Allow handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices". It worked the first time for me then it didn't the second time I tried it. 50/50. Go to System Preferences/General/. The tab will be at the bottom. Uncheck if checked.
The second is to hold down the Bluetooth icon on the HK Onyx 4, located on the left side of the speaker, twice. Apparently this will re-pair the connection between the Onyx and the Mac. Not sure if it's true, but it worked right away as I'm listening to Spotify as I write this. Hold the button down till you hear the notification dings, let go, wait a second and do it again. Click on Onyx in your Mac Bluetooth window and see if that connects.
I hope one of these methods works for you.
