iOS Mail Sync: Status "Read" does not sync, but other status changes do

On my iPhone, I have the following problem: When another one of my devices (my iPad, my wife's iPhone, Outlook all of whom use the same mail accounts) receive or delete an Email, those are synced with my iPhone. But the "Read" status is not.

  • Take this situation: All devices receive an email: is correctly reflected on iPhone
  • Another device deletes that email: is correctly reflected on iPhone
  • Another device reads the email and thus changes its status to "read": is NOT reflected on iPhone; Mail remains in status "unread"

To summarize: It's only when another device just reads the mail that the status change does not come across to my iPhone

To make things harder: This only happens with two of my mail accounts, not all of them. I haven't been able to find any difference in settings between the accounts (which are all on the same provider).

And it's been happening for the last one or two weeks, not before.

Thanks for any help!

Michael

Just an intermediate status: I'm still in discussion with Strato, who are looking into that matter.

This, however, has led to a different problem: I reinstalled that mail account on my iPhone using a download of the mail account profile from Strato. Now I can't delete it anymore - in iOS Mail settings, the account does not have a "Delete Account" button, as all the others do. Someone told me that this is the case when an administrator has installed that profile, so I suppose this is what happened when I downloaded the profile from Strato. Strato too tells me they cannot delete that account anymore.

Does that mean that this mailbox will remain on my iPhone until the end of the universe, including all new iPhones that I will ever set up using the data from my current one? Or is there a chance to delete such a mail profile short of resetting the iPhone to factory settings?

Thanks a lot, that did work, indeed. I've been able to remove that account as you described.

So we're back to the original question of this thread: Why do some of my accounts not receive from Strato the "Read" status for emails read on another device? Or why do they not process it correctly?

I'm still waiting for a reply from Strato on that one. In the meantime, if one of you girls / guys has an idea on the matter, please go ahead. If not, stay tuned for news, as I will certainly keep you updated.

Greetings

Michael

Hi Markus, I’m currently away from home and thus from Outlook, but when I test it with Strato webmail it still doesn’t work.

If you have the same problem, it seems that there may be something going wrong between Strato and iOS, and of course, we as users don’t have any chance of finding out on which side the problem lies.

In an ideal world, Apple support and Strato support would get together to figure it out, with us providing the examples.

Anyway, greetings and a Happy New Year!

Michael
