Inability to receive voice calls in LTE mode when the watch is away from the iPhone

Purchased an Apple watch 8 (GPS + Cellular) in US. Cannot receive voice calls on the watch in LTE/ Cellular mode in India when the watch is away from the iPhone with Jio as carrier. What to do? (watchOS 9.1, iPhone OS 16.1.2). Error message says "Your Jio account is not eligible to enable cellular on your Apple Watch. Contact Jio for more information". Contacted Jio, no response. But previously, the phone was paired with watch 6 (GPS + Cellular) purchased in India and there was no difficulty in receiving the voice calls in cellular mode on watch with the same Jio connection. Pl help.

Hello joybos61,

It sounds like you aren't able to use your Apple Watch for phone calls in India, and you purchased the Apple Watch in the US, right? Looking at the Apple Watch cellular information page, it seems like the Apple Watch from the US and India are two different models with different frequency/band support.

Since they are different models supporting different frequencies, it may not be compatible with your cellular carrier in India. You may want to contact your cellular carrier for more information.

Regards.

Glad to inform you that today I was able to configure my watch in LTE mode. The Cellular option was previously greyed out. Today I found it to be alive and did not spare a minute to configure the watch in LTE mode which was breeze. I think Jio had done something at its end as I had shot a number of emails to them highlighting the problem. As of now, there is no issue with the watch.

It is now established that the Apple watches purchased in US will be working in other regions/ countries also, provided that the working frequencies of the carriers of the regions match, as indicated in Apple Watch GPS + Cellular.

Thanks.

Hello joybos61,

We appreciate where you're coming from. When it comes to which models can connect, and the type of signal the towers will support, this is entirely up to the cellular carriers in your location and the technology they've installed on their cellular towers, and neither you or Apple would have any control of what those carriers support.

Your best bet would be to reach out to your cellular carrier for additional information and compatibility information to make sure your experience matches your expectations.

Take care.

Thanks, Tammer1.

You may pl. go through the details as given in the "Apple Watch - Carriers" in the link provided by you.

It is clearly mentioned that both the models of Watch 8 i.e. A2774 (my watch and US specific model) and A2775 (India etc. specific model) are compatible to same set of frequencies in LTE mode viz.

1. 2100 MHz, 2. 1900 MHz and 3. 1800 MHz.

Then why the watch cannot be configured in LTE mode, I fail to understand.

Moreover, I have recently gone through some posts in the Community that the Apple Watches bought in in US were performing seamlessly in India in LTE mode. Saw screenshots of Cellular icon glowing solid green.
