Leaving.... what? Do you mean changing to another email address? If so, it will probably be fine for a while but, over time, you'll start getting more and more spam. It happens to every email address. I have, in the last 10 years worked for both a Fortune 500 company, a small university and a very large university. Even with the enterprise-level filtering these organizations have, spam gets through.
I pointed this out to support and it went in one ear and out the other.
Apple Support can't stop spam. All they can do is agree with you that it's bad and provide you with an explanation of the tools available to deal with it.
If you want a more comprehensive filtering option, I'd recommend Spam Sieve. It's not free but it's very good. I use Gmail (which has it's own issues) but the automated filtering is pretty good.
