Playing videos that I made and that are in my apple photo files - using my new macbook air M1

I just got a macbook air M1 (2020) and when I open a video in my apple photos, it won't play. I click on the "play" arrow and nothing happens. I saw on line that QuickTime isn't installed on these, but I'm not sure whether that's true. The Icon QuickTime Player is in my apps, but when I open it, I just get a list of the documents on my desktop. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it! Thanks.

Hello M7427,

Power cycle the MacBook using these instructions: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support While simple, this can refresh the macOS, apps and connections.

QuickTime should definitely be installed on the system. Open a Finder window. Then click on Applications in the left column. Scroll down to find QuickTime Player. You can also click the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner and type, "QuickTime", into the search field.

You can find the QuickTime guide here: QuickTime Player User Guide for Mac - Apple Support

You mention you made these videos. Are these the only videos that do not play? Where were these created? What app where they created in? What format are the videos?

The page you came from, If you can't play videos in Photos on your Mac - Apple Support, has suggestions if the videos are older.

If you are seeing an error, if you provide it exactly as it appears, others here may be able to offer possible solutions.

Have a good day.
