Welcome to the Apple (user-to-user) Community.

You might want to try simply "copy" and "paste" photo into Mail message
or
just "drag" the file from the desktop into the Mail message
or
press on the photo file with two fingers on the trackpad to open menu > share > Mail
The photo opens in a new Mail message, ready to be addressed.

Mmmmm ... seems that is not a feature of Facebook on Mac.
I may be wrong ... video calls, audio calls, chat, yes.
