Mail app doesn't save signatures

My Mail application is not saving signatures when I exit.

If I close the window (command +w) it is recorded, but if I close it permanently (command + q) I have to recreate the signature, as it does not record.

Mac mini, macOS 13.0

I had the same problem with Mail in macOS 12.x to 13.1 not saving signature edits and not being able to delete them. It was rather annoying to have to edit the signatures each time I sent an email and I was very close to going with a third party application. A case opened with Apple that went to their engineering came back with a response asking me to do a deep audit of my system which did not fix the issue.

However, I found a fix on reddit.com that may be helpful. It seems that Mail and its data in the iCloud Drive (the private settings data you can't directly access) needs to be unlinked (at least for me).

The fix: (macOS 13.1)

System Settings

Apple ID pane (right under search)

iCloud

iCloud Drive (I have mine on)

Apps Syncing to iCloud Drive -> Options

Documents

Uncheck Mail

Done

My signatures work just as expected with this off. In testing I turned it back on and the abnormal behavior reoccurred.

I don't know what consequences there are for having this unchecked, but at this point not having to edit the signatures every email makes up for this unknown.

Hope this helps.

Have the exact same machine and not issues.

The point being and this was covered in above reply.

Yes, agree if the computer will be closed down or the application is not longer needed at this time, of course close it but leave it time to upload the Signature before closing the Application completely.

The machine is fast but there are reasonable limits

A - This seems to imply the User ( you ) are recoding a short Video ?

A - If so - strongly suggest reading from the below link from Apple on Apple Mail and adding a Signature

Refer to link

Create and use email signatures in Mail on Mac - Apple Support (CA)

Excerpt from above link

" You can create prepared text, called a signature, to include when you send email messages. For example, you can create one signature for your work email and another signature for your personal email. "

Hi!

This Mail behavior is very irritating and I fixed it in another, rather radical way: I reset MacOS data and settings again. At the end, everything was working again, without any problems.

In your case, I imagine that unchecking the option to synchronize Mail interferes precisely at this point, that is, the emails will not be synchronized with your computer or other devices. It's what I imagine.

Either way, it's working for both of us and that's what matters.

Thank you very much for the message!

Happy new year!

There's no reason to have the app open all the time. Maybe you shouldn't close it after including a signature, but there's also no reason to keep it open without being used. Also, at some point I'm going to turn off the computer and it will close one way or another.

I use a Mac Mini with only 8GB of memory and I tend to use heavy applications in my work... There's no reason to keep applications open unnecessarily.

I've been using macOS since 2013. Nothing like this has ever happened. The Mail application has always worked perfectly, but this time, after resetting the operating system, the signatures are not saved.

I tried adding a signature and waited 5 minutes before closing the app to no avail. When opening Mail again there are no more signatures in the preferences.

To compare, have been using Apple Computer since about 2004 on the old Motorola PPC with OSX 10.4 Tiger and every single version since then ( about 14 versions until Ventura macOS 13.1 ) and signatures in Apple Mail have always worked on all machines and all versions of OSX or macOS

The important aspect of Signatures in Apple mail from the previous links and I quote >>

" You can create prepared text, called a signature, to include when you send email messages. For example, you can create one signature for your work email and another signature for your personal email. "

If the user ( you ) are attempting some other type of Signature other than " text " declare it now as that will change everything.
