FaceTime ends the call during handoff to Mac from iPhone

I am having trouble with the Handoff feature between my iMac and iPhone, both updated to the latest iOS16/MacOS Ventura.

If I start the FaceTime video call on my iPhone and try to switch it to the iMac, it brings up the FaceTime app and there is a button for "join (not "switch") but upon clicking it, it simply closes the FaceTime call on all devices.

Doing it the reverse way, starting a call from iMac, I seem to be able to switch the call to iPhone without killing the call.

Sometimes the iMac also does not even recognize that a FaceTime is open on my iPhone (even though they are close to each other and on same wifi network).

Why is it ending the call/not recognizing it?

Any advice is appreciated.

Hey VincentV23,

Handoff is a great feature! Let's complete the following to see if they help to resolve the connection issue between your iMac and iPhone:

  1. Double-check both your iMac and iPhone are signed in to the iCloud settings with the same Apple ID.
  2. Be sure you didn't accidentally block your Apple ID. On your iPhone tap Settings > Phone Blocked and on your Mac select Messages > Preferences > Blocked and search for your Apple ID.
  3. Toggle Handoff off and back on for both your iPhone and iMac: Use Handoff to continue tasks on your other devices - Apple Support
  4. Restart your modem and/or Wi-Fi router.

These steps should help to make sure you're signed in and helps to refresh the connections. Keep us posted on the results.

Take care!
