M1 Macbbook Air, 16G RAM and 1Tb SSD Ventura 13.1 Apple Mail uses too much operating memory caulses system failure.

My wife has exactly the same issue with Apple Mail using too much application memory and causing shut down. This was posted by a user (Miked52) Nov 2021. Was his issue solved? Have spent hours on phone with Apple without solving the issue. It means that Mail cannot be used and all e-mails (on GMail acc) have to be accessed through a web browser. Have used Disk Utility to see if Mac hard drive is OK and there are NO problems with it.

Hello SJimB,

Are multiple email accounts added to the Mail app? If so, try the following:

1. Quit Mail (Mail menu > Quit Mail)
2. Head to System Settings > Internet Accounts
3. Highlight the account from the left sidebar, then deselect the checkbox for Mail.
4. Open Mail and test again.

If it works at that time then try removing the account in System Settings > Internet Accounts > Select the account > Click the (-) button.

Note that if the account is a POP (and not IMAP) account, this results in losing that account's data from the Mail app. You may check with the provider to confirm if needed.

Then, add the account back as normal and see if it's resolved. If they still have issues you may wish to continue working with Apple Support here for a further investigation: Get Support

Cheers.
