Has Apple Dropped support for .aif/.aiff files?

Has Apple Dropped support for ".aif" & ".aiff" files? I am currently in the process of returning to music production after a brief hiatus. All of a sudden, Quicktime, Fission, VLC, and other applications are stating they don't support (or recognize) the .aif file format? Ive been a Mac user since Mac OS 9.1 and have been using .aif files without incident until now, WTF gives?

(I'm on Monterey 12.6.1, if that matters, the attached image is just an example of what I have encountered trying to access files in my sample libraries.)

My sincerest thanks for all your feedback. As it turns out the affected files act the way they do due to Ableton Live. The affected files are all located within the user library folder, all files outside this folder are accessible and operate as expected in Finder and every other audio program I have available. What Live has done to the files inside the user library folder to make them only usable by live via it's browser, I doubt I'll be able to determine, I'm just glad I can access all my media again. Thank you again for your feedback it made me determined enough to dig deep enough to figure partly figure out my issue.
