Microphone not working

Hello!

I have an issue with my Macbook Pro (14 inch, 2021, M1 Max). MacOS 12.6.2 (21G320).

I have connected my Windows Razor mouse, keyboard and mousepad to my Macbook through Acer 7 mini dock.

I have external monitor ASUS TUF VG279QM connected through the same dock's HDMI, not in the HDMI of the Macbook directly.

I am using bluetooth headset Sony WH-1000XM4 (which I love and want to use at all cost).

The issue is that since I keep my Macbook closed when it is connected to the external monitor, the microphone does not work. It only works if I keep open the Macbook.

I wish to keep the Macbook closed and still have the microphone of my bluetooth headset working. Would that be possible?

Greetings 2esd2,

It sounds like you want to know if it is possible to have your microphone work when the lid is closed on your MacBook. We know how important this is for you, and you’re in the right place for answers.

It is not possible. All Apple silicon-based Mac notebooks and Intel-based Mac notebooks with the Apple T2 Security Chip feature a hardware disconnect that disables the microphone whenever the lid is closed. More info about this can be found here: Hardware microphone disconnect

We understand your concern and you can leave feedback about this on the Apple Product Feedback page.

All the best!

Actually, I've checked for the T2 chip and it does not seem to be present in my Mac or I am not finding it in the correct menu.

According to the following article, the T2 should have been mentioned in System Information > Controller or Bridge:

Mac models with the Apple T2 Security Chip - Apple Support

The issue is that in Controller, I do not see any mentions of T2 and I do not have iBridge menu from the left-hand menus.

I've submitted a feedback about the article which explains which Mac devices have T2 to Apple so they can revise it.

But overall, your comment makes sense and it could be that Apple need to update its article.

Thank you!
