New print dialog screens

I am really not happy with how Ventura print dialog boxes are now presented. I print all day for a living and use to be able to breeze through them because of their layout. Now the layout has changed and I need to scroll down and click on dropdown to get to the settings I need to change every time. I need to get to Printer Options each time.

How to I make Apple aware I am not happy?

It is the dialog revamps (printer and system preference) that are the problem! I think most of us accessing this forum know how to save printer presets.

What use to be a vertically compact, but horizontally wide box that was easy to navigate is now a long, jumbled mess that is hard to navigate. You've destroyed a clean, easy to navigate, interface and turned into a laundry list, Ala the iPhone interface, that is very difficult/cumbersome to use. Same with the System Preferences. I feel like I'm using a Linux or Windows system. You are forcing a crappy iPhone interface on our computers - and doing a BAD job of it at that. A list may work best on an iPhone due to the smaller window, but on a laptop/desktop we have lots of horizontal real estate that should be used. Apple is forgetting the importance of the user interface.

Hello ctphoto1,

If you are using the same print settings repeatedly then perhaps saving them would help. These steps from Save frequently used print settings for routine printing on Mac - Apple Support may be helpful:

Save your print settings as a print job preset or custom preset
1. On your Mac, open a document, then choose File > Print.
2. Choose any print settings you want to save as a preset.
3. Click the Presets pop-up menu, then choose Save Current Settings as Preset.
The Presets section of the Print dialog.
4. To save a print job or custom preset, do the following:
• Preset Name: Type a preset name.
• Available for: To create a preset for a specific printer, click the printer name or click “All printers” to make this preset available for all printers.
• Type: Click Print Job Preset to save it as a general print job preset or click Custom Preset to save the settings as a custom preset to be used with a print job preset.

To view a list of presets or delete them, choose Edit Preset List from the Preset pop-up menu. You can also choose to automatically revert the chosen presets to the default print settings after printing.

Print with your preset
1. With a document open on your Mac, choose File > Print.
2. Click the Presets pop-up menu, then choose the Standard or Print Job presets from the menu.
You see all presets available for that printer. If you don’t see a preset, it’s possible that you created that preset for only a specific printer.
3. To optionally use custom presets, click the Presets pop-up menu, choose Presets, then choose the custom presets you want.
Tip: You can preselect a combination of custom presets to be used together. Choose Advanced Selection from the Preset menu and then click the presets you want used in combination.
4. With your preset selected, click Print.

You can find additional information there about presets that may also help.

First of all I know how to create presets, but thanks for the explanation.

Not sure if you are aware of this but Apple OS and Epson Pro Printers drivers have a bad history of playing nice together. Created presets just do not stick consistently. And when you start to get confident that one of your presets is actually using ALL the settings you expected and print out a several hundred dollar print only to toss it in the trash, you learn not to trust them. So I, like many others, go through mental checklist each time to make sure all the settings are correct. The most important one being under the "Printer Options>Printer Settings" category in the driver. Previous Mac OS had this category located much higher up the print dialog screen so I could just click on it like muscle memory. Now it requires a scroll down every time. I know it seems like a minor issue but when you do this several hundred times a day.....it sucks.

I am not sure who to blame, Apple or Epson, because this issue only started after moving up to Ventura.

On another note, we sometimes use a program like PrintTools (https://www.quadtonerip.com/html/QTRprinttool.html) to layout images before printing them, but it still uses the Epson driver and carries the same issue I am complaining about.
