Set-up of iPhone 11 & non-pairing problem

Just purchased a new iPhone 11 from Optus. When set-up found it did not load ‘Contacts’ which are obviously needed, & cannot find how to get Contacts into phone. Also, it will not ‘pair’ with my iWatch, iPad or Apple Mac - surprisingly, as my old iPhone 6 certainly did. iWatch is Series 5. I have reset ‘Phone - no change. Should I just totally clear the iPhone & set-up again? Would that work? Is iWatch Series 5 not compatible with iPhone 11. iWatch doesn’t seem to ‘find’ my 5G modem connection, but worked before with ‘phone.

Hi there procon87,

Congrats on getting your new iPhone!

Yes, your iPhone 11 is compatible with an Apple Watch Series 5. That being said, the latest version for your watch would be watchOS 9.2. Of course, you'd need to pair them both together in order to check for any updates. We'd like to help rule out some possible causes, along with confirming more details to better understand what's happening:

  1. Regarding the issue with contacts not loading, we'll need more details to better understand what's happening. From where are you loading those contacts onto your new iPhone? Did you restore from an older iPhone backup? Did you have iCloud Contacts enabled on your older iPhone? The answers to these questions will help with determining what can be done regarding contacts on your new iPhone.
  2. An iPhone will not pair with either an iPad, nor a Mac. This has never been possible. Regarding pairing with a watch, we're not quite sure what occurs when you try, but the more details you provide, the better we'll understand the issue. In case you had your watch paired with an older iPhone, this link shows How to pair your Apple Watch with a new iPhone.
  3. As you're using an iPhone 11, the latest version is iOS 16.2. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.

Cheers!

procon87,

Thanks for keeping us updated, and we're glad to hear that the initial issue is resolved.

As for help with connecting your Apple Watch to Wi-Fi, with an Apple Watch Series 5 you would need use Scribble to write the password on the watch display. For more details, check out this link here: Connect your Apple Watch to Wi-Fi - Apple Support

Choose a Wi-Fi network
1. Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
2. Tap Wi-Fi. Your device automatically searches for networks.
3. Tap the name of the network that you want to join. If you have Apple Watch Series 6, you can connect to 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks. Apple Watch Series 5 and earlier, and Apple Watch SE, can connect only to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks.
4. If asked, enter the password using Scribble or the Apple Watch keyboard.
5. Tap Join.

Let us know if that's able to help.

Take care!

Thank you so much for your reply and apologies for the delay in answering. Friends, visitors etc., over this festive season have distracted me.

I have managed to, finally download Contacts, thank you. Contacts was enabled on my iPhone 6, but on searching, thanks to you, I found Contacts switched off on new phone, in iCloud.

Then, I did 'reset' my Watch, after hesitating, with a few questions as to whether this was the way to go. It worked. Only problems I have now are, it seems iWatch series 5 needs a password for my WiFi, and even then, won't accept the suggestions, and won't accept the 5G version of the WiFi. I also can't find if there is a way to actually type the password, I have tried freehand writing on that screen which is pretty hit and miss as you do it with your finger.

Anyway, I want to thank you for your excellent assistance, and wish you a very good, enjoyable, New Year of 2023.
