Unresponsive behavior tapping app icons

I just got a new iPhone 14 Pro and I'm running iOS 16.2. Something I've noticed is that occasionally and intermittently the phone will be unresponsive. For example, I was just using Find My, swiped up for home screen, tapped on another app icon (LinkedIn). The phone clearly registered my tap, because the icon dimmed temporarily, but the app did not open. Still on the home screen (finger released of course). So I tap it again, same thing happens (icon blinks to show its tapped, but nothing else happens). Tap it a third time and the app finally opens. I think I've seen similar behavior when tapping on table rows inside apps too. It feels like it may be more of a iOS than a hardware issue, almost like the phone is too busy with something else to deal with my action, but I'm a bit worried because if it means there's something wrong with my phone maybe I should take it back.

Did you just transfer the data from an old iPhone to your new iPhone? If YES, then the apps are probably not completely downloaded from the App Store. This means that when you tap on an app, then it gets downloaded from the App Store (thus the lag) and then opens once the download is completed. If you connect your iPhone to a Wi-Fi Network and allow some time, then the app downloads will complete and the function should return to normal.

------------------

If the above does not apply to you, then Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).
