Provisional Enrollment Failed [MCCloudConfigErrorDomain - 0x80EF (33007)]

Hi I keep trying to add an iPhone to ABM service via Apple Configurator 2 using a profile that has a wifi connection set up in it and I can push to the phone and it can surf the internet successfully. However when I try prep the phone to use supervision i get the above error message.

The config profile has worked flawlessly on company iPads, both new and older units that have been repurposed, The wifi works as stated above. I have reset the iPhone, restored the phone, revived the phone and erased the phone, I have tried with a working sim card and without. i have even tried apply the profile with out wifi. I fact i have run out of ideas on how to resolve this issue. (Sorry issue is iphone 12 running iOS 16.2 (20c65)

Somebody please help.....

This Worked For Me.

I have not had to do this in the past, but today I had the same issue and eventually I went through the setup process on the iPad to the point where I connected the it to our WiFi. Then I did the Prepare and it worked.

I have my MacBook set to Share its network connection with the iPad, so it should not have made a difference. Also, all I do is use Apple Configurator to add the iPads to our Apple School Manager account when someone buys one at a store instead of through the proper channels. No other set up options. Then I use the MDM to do all the 'hard work.'

FYI - This iPad did come with 16.2 installed. It failed with that iOS. I updated it to 16.4 and still failed. That's when I connected it to WiFi.

I hope this helps someone.

I was able to resolve the issue on macOS Sonoma without having to manually connect each device to the Wi-Fi before applying the blueprint.

Do the following:

  1. Power on all Apple devices and connect them to your hub or MacBook.
  2. Go into Settings > General > Sharing.
  3. If Internet Sharing is already turned on, turn it off.
  4. Click on the information icon to the right of the toggle button.
  5. Turn on all toggle buttons listed under "To devices using".
  6. Click Done.
  7. Turn on Internet Sharing.

This worked for me. It was driving me mad.

This particular iPhone had been removed from device management during the set up by accident that then meant it was released from Apple Business manager.

I was able to eventually get it enrolled again, by doing a full restore of the phone. NB initially I was having problems getting the restore to work, the Wifi profiles added by Apple configurator during the prepare stage, were still visible and on the phone in "VPN and Device management" menu. Eventually after deleting those profiles and using a windows computer to do the restore rather than the MAC I had been trying with. The phone restored properly.

The final piece, as described above, was to make sure that after the iPhone restore you click through the first couple of pages of setup, then get to the WIFI screen and join to the Wifi , don't then do anything else on the iPhone , but immediately start the Prepare on Apple configurator. Instead of taking minutes and failing, it just went through in 30 sec and the phone was back enrolled on ABM.

These are primarily pre-bought stock. We are looking into a supplier who can sell pre-enrolled as it appears to be Apple's preferred method as they're offering very little in support/explanation. Also migrating to Android too as corp-owned fully managed devices seems more reliable to set up on current devices (although not without its issues).

even on a wifi connection (both iMac with Apple Configurator) and the phones to be prepared / tethered from phone or otherwise still getting same error - anyone has any further thoughts? Would be greatly appreciated. All phones updated, reset through Configurator or manually, still same. Sometimes got half way through and got 'prepared' but then it got error on the phone 'Invalid Profile' and was allowed to erase the phones...

We are now up to 6 devices (13 / 14 on 16.2) that have this problem and so far the only solution has been to simply send the devices back to Apple. I'm not sure what's going on, frankly. It seemed to really kick-off with iOS 16.2

Before, the error message was a direct indicator of a connectivity failure. Now, despite the embedded wi-fi profile or a dedicated SIM slotted in and functional, we still get the message.

Not helpful, I know.

Hi,

We've had this with a combination of box fresh brand new iphones, 1 iPad and a couple iphones that have been taken out of Intune MDM added to ABM. these doesnt appear to be any rhyme or reason to it.

The devices from intune have been deleted from intune and Azure Ad left 24-48hrs in order to be completely removed. And it still happens some times

Hello,

we are having a similar issue. we are having this error with 2 brand new gen 10 ipads running 16.3.1. we are using the configurator to manually enroll into our ASM. this error occurs for us right when we begin to prepare a device. we were able to enroll a 9th gen at the same time running 16.3.1 with no issue. These were not purchased thorough a seller that enrolled them into our ASM. Any help or direction to look would be awesome.

Thank you
