I have a issue where when I connect my AirPods pro to my phone when the screen is locked I can’t wake the screen and the AirPods don’t connect. Why is this happening? Phone is up to date.

Hmm, it doesn't seem likely that your phone freezing is related to AirPods.
If you can‘t connect a Bluetooth accessory to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If your iOS device restarts or displays the Apple logo or a spinning gear unexpectedly
If no help, consider a factory reset:
Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

It only happens when the screen is off and I open my AirPods case. Then the screen wont turn on and stays black. After a wile the display comes back on and I have to put the AirPods back in the case and pair them again.
