Why doesn't desktop Mac startup?
Why won't iMac complete startup? After pushing start button on back of iMac the process stops after the Apple icon becomes visible and the startup bar reaches short of halfway point.

Your Mac shows an Apple logo when it finds your built-in or external startup disk. As startup continues, you should see a progress bar, with or without the Apple logo. It has likely had a hardware failure. Please follow the information in If your Mac doesn't start up all the way - Apple Support
