So I’ve lost my iTunes password and understand that the only way to clear the old password is to reset it.
But… what exactly does resetting actually lose and what will remain?
Will my apps and data still be in the same folders and locations?
Will I lose all the stored passwords?
I really need to know so I can prepare properly.

If your iPhone requires resetting, then you will be erasing the iPhone and starting all over again with a new setup. The iPhone will look just like it did when you first took it out of the box when it was new.
If you have a current backup of the iPhone, you can use that to restore the settings and data on the phone, so it will look like it did just before the time that you forgot your password.

You see, when resseting you're Iphone with no backup, everything gets deleted.

And to be clear, did you lose your Iphone password or Icloud password.
If I knew the password then I could just change it but alas for various reasons the password has been forgotten.
So what I read is that resetting removes the original password. But what else do I lose?
If I understand, you want to reset you're itunes password.
If that's the case, changing/resetting the password won't affect your apps, folers, stored passwords or anything else.
As i said, resseting you password removes the original password, and you lose nothing else.

It was the iPhone backup password in iTunes.
Nothing as drastic as a system error. Simply the password was changed but forgotten.
It was advised to change due to so many data breaches on the Internet.
