Hi Druw2126,

We'll need a bit more information so that we can provide the most accurate steps to help. Is your iPhone unresponsive? If so, then force restarting it will help. Here's how: Force restart iPhone.

Force restart iPhone
If iPhone isn’t responding, and you can’t turn it off then on, try forcing it to restart.

1. Press and quickly release the volume up button.
2. Press and quickly release the volume down button.
3. Press and hold the side button.
4. When the Apple logo appears, release the side button.

It also sounds like you may have been attempting to reduce the size of your iCloud backup by turning off iCloud backup for the Messages app with the steps from this article:  Manage your iCloud storage.

Reply with the answers to these questions so we can help further:

  • Do you no longer want to turn off and delete iCloud Backup for the Messages app?
  • What steps are you taking to "undo" the process?
  • Does simply restarting your iPhone allow you to switch the Messages app back on in the Backup settings?

Cheers.

Hey there. I'm having the same problem.

Steps I took:

  1. My iCloud was full, and the Messages took up most of my storage. I clicked the "Disable & Delete" messages, which caused my important "pinned" messages to be removed from my iPhone, but all of them are still on my Mac.
  2. I selected "Undo Disable & Delete" on my iPhone, but it will not proceed past the "Turning on" loading message. I've left it on that screen for over 5 minutes without any changes.
  3. Next, I tried going to my Macbook where all of my messages were still available. I went into the Settings app, clicked on my name, then clicked on iCloud. From there, everything slowed down and stopped loading.
  4. I've tried restarting my Macbook in safe mode and force restarting my iPhone using the instructions above. Then I repeated my attempts to Undo Disable & Delete, but there have not been any changes.

To answer your questions,

  1. Yes, I no longer want to turn off and delete iCloud Backup for the Messages app. I basically want to restore the messages that were deleted from my iPhone and then no longer back them up on my iCloud.
  2. Please read above to see the steps I took to undo the process.
  3. No, restarting my iPhone does not allow me to switch the Messages app back on in the Backup settings.

I'm having the exact same problem as riflegirl95. I used "disable & delete" then can't active "undo disable & delete. Tech support asked me to updated to 16.3 software and try it again which I did. I go to icloud, messages, and "undo disable & delete" and all I get is a popup that says "turning on....". I've done this several times and same result. I can't get icloud to revert back to "undo & delete" for my messages. Any help is appreciated.
