I have unlimited data on my mobile phone, which is 4g, I just did a software iOS update, went perfectly, when I tried my iPad PC, using a hot spot from my iPhone it says I must have Wi-Fi to do an update. Why would this be ? As my phone just did it with mobile data ?

also trying to backup to iCloud, runs for 30 seconds or so then drops out, my signal is good is there anything else I can do thanks

It looks like its impossible to do an ipdate when using hotspot, I guess you could just simply connect to the internet, and for you're icloud problem, Here's a apple made guide If you can't back up to iCloud - Apple Support
I don’t believe your iPhone used mobile data to perform its iOS update. That is not possible - unless you have a 5G iPhone and data plan.
Hey sberman, i too believed it was impossible but after doing some researches, i've found that from iOS 15.4, you can now download iOS updates using 4G for older iPhones.
So i guess he is right.
You were probably connected on 4g and wifi on same time.

Hi thanks, wonder why people are so willing to disbelieve….so as I can use mobile data on my iPhone, the iPad hotspot is using the same mobile data, from my iPhone, so should be allowed, maybe an oversight by Apple.

.my iOS is now 15.7.2. On my iPhone, I selected update it found one and updated, I have NO Wi-Fi, only mobile data

OMG I dint have any Wi-Fi, please believe me, I wish I did, that’s why I’m paying £30 month for unlimited data
