Contact photos on my kids apple watch

i have an iPhone 13pro max on iOS 16.0.2 in my family I have kids on Apple Watch SE with version 9.1. I have paired them to my phone and set them up. I have shared select contacts from my contacts. I have edited these contacts in the watch app on my phone (changed my personal name to “Dad” in their contacts etc). I would like for the contact photos to transfer over to the kids watches. Or even for me to have the ability to set up photos in their contacts separately from my contacts. I’ve tried editing the contacts and clicking on the photo circle (the way I would update a photo on my phone) and it doesn’t work. One single contact photo has transferred to my kids watches. Only one. How can I get more contact photos on the kids watches?

Hi Jasehors,

The photo for the contacts on their Apple Watch would reflect the photo for the contact you have on your iPhone since they are shared from your device. Does the contact have the photo on your device? If so, in the Contacts app for the Apple Watch on your iPhone, if you choose the Contacts option on the main page for each watch, under the 'All Watches', does it show mirror iPhone or the custom option selected?

More info on managing the family member's Apple Watch can be found here: Set up Apple Watch for a family member and below.

"Manage a family member's Apple Watch after you set it up

You can use your iPhone to adjust settings and customize features on a Family Setup watch:

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on the iPhone that you used to set up the watch.
  2. Tap All Watches, tap the watch under Family Watches, then tap Done.
  3. Choose a setting to adjust."

Best regards.

Hi Hc1111,

thanks for the response however I don’t believe it answers my question. I should have specified: the kids have their own apple IDs already setup (we referenced apples setup instructions in order to get them set up) and I’m not able to edit contact photos. Thanks for the setup resources but they are already set up (using apples instructions guide). The issue is post set up, my inability to put a contact photo with their contacts. I am able to edit their other contacts information on my phone both under the Apple Watch app and under setttings-family-specific account name-screen time-communications limits-contacts but not the contact photos.

any advice relative to changing contact photos on the child’s contacts would be much appreciated thanks!

Hey there Jasehors,

If you're using the same Apple ID on your iPhone and both of the Apple Watch devices, then the content will be synced and changed each time. If you're looking for the kid's watches to have their own content (contacts, photos, etc.), then you'll need to have another Apple ID set up for them

The information below will help explain what's needed if you set up the watch and they don't have an iPhone:

What you need
• An Apple Watch Series 4 or later with cellular,* or Apple Watch SE with cellular, with watchOS 7 or later.
• An iPhone 6s or later with iOS 14 or later for the initial watch setup.
• An Apple ID for yourself and one for the family member who will use the Apple Watch. Your Apple ID needs to have two-factor authentication turned on.
• A Family Sharing group that includes the person who'll use the Apple Watch. You need to have the role of organizer or parent/guardian to set up an Apple Watch for a family member.

* A cellular plan isn't required to set up an Apple Watch for a family member, but is necessary for some features.

Continue with the guidance in this resource for help setting up the Apple Watch devices: Set up Apple Watch for a family member

Take care!
