How do I create an "On My Mac" account in Contacts?

Recently upgraded to Ventura. I have some Contacts in an iCloud account and some in an On My Mac account. Was having trouble with Contacts in iCloud. I turned off iCloud contacts then turned them back on. All my On My Mac contacts have been moved into iCloud. How do I recreate an On My Mac account so I can get the Contacts moved out of iCloud and back into On My Mac?

So here's the solution from Apple Support. Turn off iCloud Contacts. On My Mac heading is created. The only card/contact is the User card. Create a new dummy contact. So now On My Mac has 2 cards. Turn iCloud Contacts back on. There should now be an iCloud heading and an On My Mac heading.

When we tried this the first time though it did not work. On My Mac disappeared. So this might work immediately or it might not. If it doesn't, the extra step is to restart the computer before turning iCloud Contacts back on.

That suggestion didn't work for the OP, nor for me. On My Mac disappears as soon as iCloud Contacts are restored.

If it is important to you submit your Apple Feedback here:  hhttp://www.apple.com/feedback

Just like mail moving away from POP to IMAP with multiple devices

Contacts with iCloud enabled to sync across devices might usurp the need for the "On My Mac" category as a thing...(?)

You can search the App Store for some third party app that meets your needs better—is always an option.

I certainly see many to choose from there:

1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drivers from loading

3 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

4 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

5 - Still issues ➡️

On My Mac..(?) The Mail.app has this category, not so much the Contacts.app...

Contacts you can add your list and name it whatever you want.

Not sure where you get this idea, Contacts has iCloud and On My Mac headings under All Contacts. It will also list any other Contacts account, for example I have a Yahoo heading in my Contacts app on another computer.

All you are doing is creating a New List in an iCloud account. That's not the problem. The problem is that I can't get "On My Mac" heading for Contacts that are stored on the iMac not in iCloud.

Thanks to P. Phillips for his insight above.

Sorry I have never seen it myself. The idea comes from my Contacts.app over the last 20 years...

Historically "Address Book.app" was included with Mac OS X from 2001 to more recent "Contacts.app"

No solution was provided then, so I'm not optimistic, but hoping....

Did you try the recommendation in the post you provided above...seemed reasonable enough if it is still applicable. (?)
