Change open program on only one external drive.

I have an external drive which contains hundreds of mp4 files. On my main system I use AppleTV to open video files. But I have an external drive which also has all these files but I want them to open in VLC. It's just a matter of convenience, but it would be nice if I could just click on the file in this drive and it would open in VLC rather than AppleTV. It's easy enough to change the setting on one file at a time, or to change all, which will change the opening program across my whole system. Actually it's easy enough to just open the files using VLC. Still, I'm wondering if there is a way around the "all or one file at a time" info technique.

I've never known this to be possible. It's the file extension which governs the application to use not the file name/source.
