Ineligible for AppleCare?

I put my serial # in to buy AppleCare for my iPad, but got the message that it was “ineligible for this product”. I bought my refurbished iPad 8th gen. from Apple, and received it on October 27 or 28th, 2022.

iPad, iPadOS 15

Here is the link to Apple's mfr's one year warranty:

Apple One (1) Year Limited Warranty

That warranty covers every device and is standard. It is just called mfr's or factory hardware warranty.

Apple used to offer Applecare with different terms in addition to the mfr's warranty. That was the "old" version of Applecare which has been discontinued; it may still be available in a couple of countries. It was replaced with Applecare + which has more benefits and is also in addition to the mfr's one year warranty (if you want to buy it). Both of those are generally referred to as Applecare interchangeably - but both are/were always in addition of the regular one year warranty.

The new Applecare + can be purchased within 60 days - that is the limit.

There is nothing called Apple Care anymore. Though some Apple documents still refer to Apple Care+ as Apple Care.

Before Apple Care+, the purchasable extended warranty option was called just Apple Care. (no plus).

Yo so essentially currently Apple Care and Apple Care+ refer to the same thing.

The regular 1 year warranty that is available by default on all Apple devices is just called the Warranty, not Apple Care.

Is there a difference between AppleCare and AppleCare+?

Yes,

BIG DIFFERNCES!

To start, typically, most Apple Store locations DO NOT repair or do actual battery replacing on any iPads.

To expedite quick and speedy customer sevices, typically, Apple and Apple Store locations ONLY offer in/out-of- warranty device replacement.

AppleCare ( NO + sign ) is just a limited, one-year warranty that ONLY covers manufacturer defects and NO user damage.

Without a paid warranty plan, any user damages are considered out of warranty and a device replacement, in lieu of an actual repair will cost you a whopping, approximate, 60% of the device's original price from Apple

The paid, extended, two-year AppleCare+ covers BOTH manufacturer defects AND any accidental/incidental user damages for two, or more, years ( if you keep paying a monthly or yearly warranty fee ) and device replacement will ONLY cost a small device replacement fee of $49 U.S.D., plus tax.

A HUGE difference between paid, two-year+ AppleCare+ warranty and the free, one year limited AppleCare ( NO + sign ) warranty.

NO user damages are covered under the free, limited AppleCare ( no + sign warranty ).

Alright.

I guess I need to play catch-up on Apple's warranty policies.

Still, the free, one-year manufacturer warranty DOES NOT cover any user related damages. Correct?

You still need to pay for the extended period warranty to get coverage for any damqges caused by the user.

Cracked screen, damages from drops, user damage from water, accidental/incidental device bending from the user, etc.

Correct?

Correct (mfr's warranty); it basically covers mfr's defects - much like everyone's one year warranty. Doesn't cover anything else.

And yes, you need to pay for the extended warranty, a.k.a. Applecare+.

And, they changed a few terms - even the Applecare+ plan terms for Macs include this:

4.1 Hardware Service and ADH Service

Apple may restrict Hardware Service and ADH Service to the country where the Covered Equipment was originally purchase

which has prompted me to think about buying it in the future.

Legal - AppleCare+ - Apple
