displays have separate spaces does not want to turn on

Hi,

I run macOS Catalina 10.15.7 on my MacBook.

A while back I unselected the "displays have separate spaces" under Mission Control.

When I reselect it, I get some text saying: "Requires logout".

Now here's the issue:

I do the logout.

But, after logging back in, it just acts like it was never selected…

  • I log out via  > Log Out username.
  • Then I log in
  • I open system preferences > mission control
  • "Displays have separate spaces" remains unselected

How can I solve this?

I would just like to be able to use split screen again.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Kind regards.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15
