When adding a Picture-in-Picture to a project, iMovie does not add a themed border to it, even though the project theme is set to "Newscast".
Here's what it would look like in an older version of iMovie...
...and here's what it looks like when I try to do it.
I'm using iMovie 10.3.5 Build Version 405627. Any help to get the themed borders back would be appreciated.

I did a Picture in Picture using the Newscast theme and it did not add a themed border to the Picture in Picture. I am running iMovie 10.1.12 on Mojave.
You can create a themed border around your Picture in Picture insert, but you would need to use a multi step process. That is, take a screen shot of the theme and insert it as a Picture in Picture. Share it out. Import it back in. Add your second Picture in Picture over your previous one.

While that does get a similar themed border for the PiP (Picture-in-Picture) effect, why did iMovie remove themed borders in the first place? At least they should have had the option to toggle them on and off!
I was never aware that a themed border ever existed. It must have been a very old version. Being a consumer like yourself I have no idea why Apple would discontinue it.
