AirPods Pro 2 strange ANC audio drift

This one is a little interesting for me, here’s the rundown:

whenever I use ANC on my 2nd pros, what tends to happen is that over time, one AirPod will tend to slowly let sound in before correcting itself after a few minutes. I was wondering if anybody had the same issue on theirs, even on 5B58.

It’s nothing super consistent, however it does still happen. I’ve done a number of troubleshooting steps:

• reset the AirPods in the case (this typically fixes issues like these)

• verify it was not from incorrect eartip fittings (good seal)

The only possibility I can think of is that when I dropped my right AirPod awhile back, it may have done something to one of the outer mics. It was not a severe drop, but it may have done enough.

Greetings Dan4115,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It may be possible that the firmware on those AirPods need to be updated. If you are pairing the AirPods with an Apple device, the updates happen automatically. The current firmware version is 5B58. To check the version:

  1. On an iOS device: Go to Settings > Bluetooth, then tap the Info button  next to the name of your AirPods. Scroll down to the About section to find the firmware version.
  2. On a Mac: Press and hold the Option key while choosing Apple menu  > System Information. Click Bluetooth, then look under your AirPods for the firmware version.

If your iOS, iPadOS or macOS isn't current, get the steps needed to update here:

Update your iPhone or iPad
Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly
1.Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2.Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3.Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4.If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
5.Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

Update macOS on Mac
Use Software Update
Before installing new software, it's a good idea to back up your Mac.
1.From the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen:
Choose System Settings. Then click General in the sidebar, and Software Update on the right.
Or choose System Preferences. Then click Software Update.
2.If Software Update finds new software, click the Update Now or Upgrade Now button to install it.
3.Enter your administrator password, if asked. During installation, your Mac might restart, and you might see a progress bar or blank screen several times.

Now, if your device software is current, you will need to update the firmware manually:

  1. Make sure that you have a Wi-Fi connection and that your AirPods are within Bluetooth range of the companion iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. With their AirPods on, listen to music or other audio content for at least 30 seconds.
  3. After 30 seconds, put the AirPods back in the Charging Case and close the lid.
  4. Use a Lightning cable to connect the Charging Case to power. Wait 30 minutes for the firmware to update.

The lid of the AirPods Charging Case needs to be closed during the entire process. If it's opened at any time, the update is interrupted and it starts over.

5. After 30 minutes, reconnect the AirPods to the iOS, iPadOS, or macOS device.

Let us know if this helps you.

Best regards!
