"Last compatible" version of Viber disappears from parent-managed older iPhone
I seem to got lost in the combined labyrinths of parental controls and acquiring legacy versions of an app, both tricky and complex on their own right.
In my case we cannot get Viber working, but it could possibly be any legacy app.
- Junior relative has an iPhone 5S with strict usage limitations - no app installation, no account editing etc. and a healthy toolkit of essential apps for getting around, buying bus tickets, managing bicycle theft insurance.
- > App Store app is hidden on Home.
- He now needs Viber which is the preferred channel of their sports team for coach-team communication.
- I enter the code-protected settings under Screen time > Content & Privacy Restrictions and allow App Store Purchases - but keep other content and privacy restrictions ON.
- > App Store appears, with NO account icon at the top right.
- In App Store, find Viber and try to get it.
- > I am warned that Viber is not compatible with iOS version.
- I go back to Content & Privacy Restrictions and turn master switch OFF then revisit App Store.
- > Account icon is now visible within App Store.
- Under Account > Purchased, I find Viber purchased by an other member of the family group long time ago. (Fortunately I know from other forum searches that this is the way to get compatible versions.)
- When prompted to install the last compatible version, I install it.
- > Viber appears on Home and can be launched - Happy Moment.
- With the mission accomplished, I get back to Content & Privacy Restrictions and turn master switch ON.
- On Home, App Store disappears - Good.
- On Home, Viber disappears - HELP!!!
Without the restrictions, Viber comes back along with App Store, but I am completely unable to keep the app on-screen with the restrictions enabled. Any help is immensely appreciated!
