Mac Cinema Display compatability with MacBookPro

I have bought a DVI adaptor to thunderbolt. From thunderbolt I bought a cable that switches to USB C. All of the products are apple original. However, the monitor is black and I can't see it appear on my macbook preferences. The Display does show a small light on the bottom right (so it does have power going in).

In general you can not 'stack' adapters.

You must make the leap from computer output to display input in at most ONE adapter.

Please post the exact model display you are connecting. There are many different Apple Cinema Displays with wildly different requirements.
