Difficulty with family set up for iwatch

Hi,

We have purchased an Apple SE watch for our daughter for Christmas and have had some difficulty.

I want to set her up with her own number and plan so she can make calls and texts without needing my iphone to be with her. (I have a phone plan with optus)

Everything said that we needed to purchase a plan through Truphone in Australia, which we did, however during the set up phase it says this "the OPTUS account on this iphone cannot be used to add a mobile data plan to "Daughters Apple watch" Visit apple etc

I have spent endless hours now trying to work this out with Optus and Apple and have got nowhere!

This should be completely separate to my plan with optus so not sure why this stage is getting blocked.

I have emailed Truphone to cancel the plan and see if this has happened to anyone else.

Has anyone had luck with setting up a Truphone plan for a family member while also having a separate accountfor their phone with Optus?

TIA

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having difficulty setting up the Apple Watch for your daughter. It sounds like you're trying to set up the watch with a separate phone plan, which is a good idea if you want your daughter to be able to make calls and send texts without needing your iPhone to be nearby.

From what you've described, it sounds like the issue might be with the account setup on your iPhone. The message you mentioned ("the OPTUS account on this iphone cannot be used to add a mobile data plan to "Daughters Apple watch"") suggests that there might be something wrong with the account setup on your iPhone that is preventing you from adding a mobile data plan to the watch.

One thing you could try is setting up a new Apple ID for your daughter and using that to set up her Apple Watch. This would allow you to set up the watch with a separate phone plan, without being tied to your own account.

If you're still having trouble after trying this, it might be a good idea to reach out to Apple or Truphone for further assistance. They should be able to help you troubleshoot the issue and get the watch set up properly.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
