its confusing, i still don't understand how to use iCloud

Im still unclear ..if i have desktop then anything on my desktop is in iCloud? so what are the extra folder that have clouds next to them for if everything on my desktop is in iCloud ?? apple never make their explanations easy..

No. Items on your desktop are only synced with iCloud if you enable desktop and documents when enabling iCloud Drive. Otherwise, only files that you place into your iCloud Drive folder sync automatically


folders with cloud next to them simply show the current iCloud status of the folder or files

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We see you were linked from the article "Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive". The folder you see is the Desktop and your Documents folder that can be accessed from your other devices with iCloud Drive. So for example on your iPad, this would be in the Files app > iCloud Drive > then choose Desktop or Documents.
